AI Music Is Actually Good…?

This song, except for the lyrics I wrote, was entirely made by AI. It's a light-hearted take on a recent news article about Canberra's train system and the unmet political promises that give some hope for improving our old transportation.

AI MUSIC IS AMAZING - Me

As a creative, the obvious buzz word around content is “AI” and how it is taking over the world and indeed it is and has been for quite some time now.

But rather than be worried, I think it’s a fantastic tool in the pocket for anyone to use.

So how did you make this song?
Suno AI - Suno is building a future where anyone can make great music. Whether you're a shower singer or a charting artist, we break barriers between you and the song you dream of making. No instrument needed, just imagination. From your mind to music.

Step 1 - Write Your Lyrics or Ask Suno
to Write It For You

Step 2 - Pop your Style of Music.
Step 3 - Title Your New Smash Hit.

But why is it good?

Well, there’s a couple of reasons, and of course there’s also the bad (queue the music industry wanting to sue and destroy) but for the sake of creativity and fun I’ve got some examples below.

  • It’s your family members “Insert significant milestone number here” birthday

Sure, making a custom-made card and present is great. But how about an AI song that is generated using your family members favorite genre of music mixed in with custom written lyrics that are entirely about them and their life (no matter how great or embarrassing they are)

You’d be the talk of the family and party for weeks because “wow, you’re great at making music”

  • Make light of a tough situation.

In my situation of creating the example above, I wanted to point out the obvious flaws of our Canberra train system while at the same time, trying to prompt an emotion of sadness (hence the gothic, slow paced singing) because we have a lacking in that area.

It’s a great way to engage with an audience, and not only that. If the song is catchy enough, it might even get stuck in peoples heads and might cause some action to be done (probably not) but hey you never know.

  • Copyright music for content creation

If you’ve ever livestreamed before you will know that the Copyright Strike from the big players Meta and YouTube are very frustrating to deal with not to mention constantly being flagged for music you have perhaps even licensed!

Well, with a paid subscription with Suno (at least for now) you own the rights to your AI generated music.

In the wider picture, this is an absolute game changer in the music industry and content creation gigs.

Because it means you can have music behind your content within literally a few strokes of the keyboard. For someone like me who has no idea how to compose music but can write quirky lyrics from time to time. That is an absolute win!

Why would you say it’s bad?

It’s bad if you don’t look at it from the right perspective. Sure, a lot of music can now be created using a computer but we’ve been doing that for the past 20 years. What is now different is AI can compose, write, stylize, change and edit a song without even knowing how to write music or use software like Fruit Loops.

It’s creative, but to some degree it lacks creativity. Remember, music is often from the heart and what makes a good song is the way its sung and played.

AI lacks the passion behind the artist but, it certainly is very close to the real thing.

In the next few years I think we’ll see a lot more formal law suits and policies written about this as a lot of the arts industry is being slammed and taken over by AI. But don’t let that be your downfall. I say, embrace these tools to be inspired and more creative in your own space and own style! because if there’s anything we need more of in this world… it is authenticity.
